| Engineers
have long known about the virtues of granite for curbs
and retaining walls; as well as for bridge and overpass
pillars. Granite resists corrosive agents, pollution,
and deicing products. Its abrasion resistance makes it
an excellent material for specialty items, such as well
bed-plates.
Granite blocks have proven most useful during floods,
when they have acted as safety wall material against
landslides. A famous bank also used massive granite
slabs to reinforce both its vault and the flooring and
walls of its most important corridor .
